The US Navy/Marine Chance Vought F-8J, was an outstanding carrier-based fighter and represented over half of the fighters on Gulf of Tonkin in the first four years of the Vietnam War. For the period 1965-68 the Crusader dominated carrier air combat statistics, claiming nearly 53 percent of all MiG kills. Its maximum speed was 1,105 miles per hour (1770 km/h) with a service ceiling of 38,400 feet (12,670 m) and a range of 440 miles (705 km). The LINDBERG F-8J Crusader model depicts the markings of the VF-24 which was based on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock during the Vietnam War
